Frequently Asked Questions
Care Instructions
Is your pottery food-safe?
We don’t use any hazardous material or heavy metal for our interior glazes on vessels made for food. If a piece is sold for use with food, then you can be sure its safe for you! We recommend enjoying hot drinks out of our handled drinkware only. We do not recommend hot drinks in our tumblers without handles as they can be hot to the touch.
Is your pottery dishwasher safe?
They are, but we recommend hand washing your Glazy Goose piece. Dishwasher detergent tends to break down the finish on your dishes and we’d hate for your one-of-a-kind piece to lose its shine! However, if your mug or bowl accidentally ends up in the dishwasher, it’s will be okay.
Is your pottery microwave safe?
Yes they are! However if the piece has a rough or exposed bottom (not glazed), please ensure it is entirely dry before microwaving. An exposed bottom can retain water and when microwaved, cause the piece to crack or shatter (another reason we recommend hand washing!).
I have additional questions about something I purchased…
We got you! Please send an email to Eric (eric@theglazygoose.com) or shoot us a message on Instagram, we’re happy to help!
Our Pots
What kind of clay do you use?
We use a variety of middle-temperature clays, primary stoneware and porcelain. We fire between cone 5 and cone 6 (2200 degrees Fahrenheit).
You say you make your own glazes. What does that mean?
Our glazes are formulated, mixed, and tested in house from their raw materials. This allows us to have greater control over the final product compared to commercially-produced glazes. It also allows us to creates colors and combinations you won’t find elsewhere!
If you are interested in learning more about our process for your pottery practice or studio, feel free to message Eric on Instagram or email him directly. We love the art of pottery, but the science of glaze mixing is a special kind of magic!
Can you tell me about your process?
We own our materials and equipment (pottery wheel, kiln, etc.), which makes it easier to refresh product between markets. The only thing holding us back is the required time needed between all the steps!
Selling at markets is one of the most valuable parts of the process because we see first-hand what people gravitate towards and purchase, meaning we keep producing those items. Markets also give us the chance to talk to people to find out what they want to see. Because we can create in smaller batches, we have a shorter production cycle to turn requests from the community into our newest offering!
